Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Opening Ceremony, the multifaceted retail environment with locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, has opened its new London store at 35 King Street in Covent Garden. Following the successful temporary shop location at 31-32 King Street that coincided with the 2012 Olympic Games, this new 7,500 square-foot space has been designed to encompass the full range of Opening Ceremony’s fashion and lifestyle offerings.
“We are thrilled by the warm welcome Opening Ceremony has received in London. We’ve sought to create a fresh, unexpected destination in the city for London’s vibrant fashion community. With a strong focus on new talent from the UK and around the world, Opening Ceremony London is very much a part of our family of shops, but with its own special personality. We’re excited to introduce our new store and our fashion discoveries to London,” say founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim.
Opening Ceremony London features UK designers including Christopher Shannon, Hundley Swim, James Long, Komakino, KTZ, Lou Dalton, Maarten van der Horst, Marques ‘ Almeida, and Piers Atkinson. International designers include 69, 202 Factory, Alexandra Verschueren, Anndra Neen for Opening Ceremony, Arielle De Pinto, Band of Outsiders, Body Editions, Boy. The store also showcases Opening Ceremony’s own ready-to-wear and accessories for women, men and children as well as a special country focus on South Korea, with many exclusives to Opening Ceremony. For the coming year, Opening Ceremony will feature innovative and emerging Korean talents including 202 Factory; 99% Is; Baby Centaur; Goen. J; Human Potential; Kye; Low Classic; MVIO; Peace, Love, and Understanding; Reblank; and Reike Nen. Opening Ceremony will also feature a special collaboration between Beanpole and Christian Lemaire, as well as collections by Hexa by Kuho, Kaal E Suktae, Juun J., PUSH button, Stevie J and Yoni P, and Parsons graduates Chris Lee and Jin Kay.
The new store will debut limited-edition print scarves by artist Pablo Bronstein, tea towels by artist Scott King, and trays by Neal Feay in collaboration with Opening Ceremony. Also available will be garments with exclusive prints from Terence Koh, Marcel Dzama, Marc Hundley, Andrew Kuo and Terry Richardson.
Opening Ceremony collaborations with Chloë Sevigny, Gitman Brothers, Hickey Freeman, Jack Greer, Keds, Timberland, Tucker Blair and Yestadt Millinery will be carried in the store as well.
British industrial designer and artist Faye Toogood has created the “Tinker” installation exclusively for Opening Ceremony London. Continuing her involvement with Opening Ceremony which started at the store’s temporary location, this new artwork embodies tinkering, the process of adapting, meddling or adjusting something in the course of making repairs or improvements.
Another Opening Ceremony London highlight is a Claire de Rouen book shop-in-shop, which features a handpicked a selection of rare first editions and inspiring tomes.
Opening Ceremony launched its first e-commerce website and blog at www.openingceremony.us .
