Take a jaunt back in time on one of the heritage trains, which return to the Metropolitan line this Sunday. Don’t forget to arrive properly attired – the 1930s fashion is strongly encouraged!
The Museum’s 1938 art deco Tube train and Engine No. 12, Sarah Siddons, the last operational Metropolitan Railway electric locomotive, will be running special journeys as part of the Amersham Old Town’s Heritage Day between Harrow-on-the-Hill, Rickmansworth and Amersham.
Metro-land best dressed Chaps and Gals
Be inspired by fashions from a bygone era, dress in your retro finest and take part in the Metro-land best dressed competition. To enter, all you have to do is embrace the vintage spirit, dress in your finest, take lots of photographs and upload your favourites from the day to the Museum’s Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/groups/1723395@N21 by Sunday 18 September when a panel of fashion and design historians will choose the smartest Chap and Gal of the day. Winners will be contacted via Flickr and then revealed on Twitter. The best dressed will each receive two annual adult tickets to London Transport Museum and a copy of ‘London’s Metro-land’ by Alan A Jackson.
Knit one, purl one
Bring your knitting or stitching and join I Knit London team who will be travelling on the 1938 art deco Tube train throughout the day. Bring an on-going project or just make do and mend. Come on your own or with a group, everyone is welcome.
Other Activities
A free heritage bus service, including the iconic Routemaster RM1, will run between Amersham station and Amersham Old Town. Entertainments during the day include clowns, an animal farm, a Punch & Judy show and a classic car display.
You can also visit London Transport Museum’s community team at the Amersham Museum who will run Metro-land themed object handling sessions and Metro-land house origami craft workshops. Admission to Amersham Museum is free of charge when you show your Heritage train ticket.
