Today we were delighted to attend a débutantes casting for the Great Russian Ball, which will be held on the 2 nd of December at the Royal Albert Hall.
This year’s Russian Ball, which is making its triumphant comeback to London after almost a century, is set to become a staple in the winter social calendar.
The Ball shall spread awareness of the finest – and often overlooked – aspects of the Russian culture and tradition, as well as become a wonderful opportunity to get together with your friends and celebrate the end of the year in a truly stylish manner.
We went to the casting to meet the supporters and the organisers – among which there were members of the Russian Embassy and the Vice President of the World Dance Sport Federation, Stanislav Popov – as well as the hopeful débutantes candidates.
After the first part of the casting, which took place in Moscow, ballroom and Russian culture enthusiasts in London have now received their chance to take part in this fantastic event and dazzle the audience at one of the most glamorous venues in London. Sixty beautiful young couples from both cities will be chosen to lead the opening ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.
We spoke to Elina, one of the débutantes who has attended all Venski Balls for the past 10 years and was also fortunate to open the first ever Ball in Moscow back in 2003, together with some Russian celebrities like Alsu. Elina studied in Cambridge and lives in the UK. She said, “Balls are not just simply dancing events. They are a comprehensive cultural experience, merging dance, music, fashion and opera into one. I think the traditional Russian culture is still not well known and understood in the UK, so such Balls are a wonderful opportunity to spread the positive message and wipe off the stereotypes.”
Another casting candidate Alina, who works in luxury lifestyle management, added: “Balls are like a gateway to a fairy tale. My dream has always been to experience a Grand Ball in Anna Karenina style. I also hope there may be a prince waiting for me there!”
The Russian Ball will open its doors in London for the first time since 1921. Whether you love dancing, or would just like to enjoy an unforgettable evening watching waltzing couples from a balcony (while having a glass of champagne and a fabulous meal), there will be something for everyone.
