So goes a song sung by The World Famous Players’ Theatre Club, founded in 1936, famous for recreating Victorian Music Hall performances. Their audiences relish singing along with familiar songs which are richly entertaining as well as an illuminating look at past times and past pleasures.
About the event
The Players’ celebrate their 75th Anniversary Extravaganza with songs,dance, magic, laughter and comic musical monologues famous in theheyday of Music Hall, circa 1890′s when performers such as Marie Lloyd, Florrie Ford and Den Leno ruled the boards. And The Players’ always raise a toast to her great and glorious Majesty — Queen Victoria!

Many of the Players’ splendid artistes were regulars on BBC TV’s long-running show THE GOOD OLD DAYS.

The Players’ 75th Anniversary Extravaganza includes Jan Hunt, Julia Sutton, Jane Webster, Judith Hibbert, Loraine Hart, Ellie Bamber, Peter John and Ben Stock, all known for their West End credits.

Other artistes on the bill include Andy Eastwood, Georgina and Tiffany Todd, Michael Pearce (of the Magic Circle).

Special guests include national treasures June Whitfield, and Barry Cryer (a past Players’ Chairman). *
The Players’ jovial, nostalgic 75th Anniversary Extravaganza will be helmed by Chairman Johnny Dennis, who has appeared perennially with the Players’ in various venues in London as well as in the City Variety, Leeds. The event is produced and directed by Jan Hunt, a musical comedy veteran familar to audiences through 30 years of Players’ shows, as well as her roles in TV show CRACKERJACK and in the Adelphi production of SHOW BOAT.

Two weeks later, on Sunday, 4 December at 6:30 PM, the Players’ Theatre Club will present a fundraising show for Wilton’s — which as the oldest surviving Grand Music Hall in the UK (1858) is a fitting backdrop for the Players’ brand of Victorian Music Hall.
There will be a slightly different roster of artistes, TBA.
