Maximum Brainpower by Shlomo Breznitz and Collins Hemingway

The perfect overview on what assists in expansion of our mental capacity is truly valuable advice, and can save time needlessly believing we can keep our brain active through puzzles, games and similar activity, and commence a deep understanding of what is beneficial. Functioning on ‘automatic pilot’ does not allow us to open our mind to see new situations for the myriad of opportunities that they may offer to experience something different due to our mind such to a similar experience from our past. If a vast amount of new and potentially stimulating and life enhancing information is edited before we have allowed the new to touch our lives and thus change us, our personal growth will be stunted due to lack of stimulus.

Our brain needs to be stimulated in different ways.

Something very important is shared that I already had knowledge of prior to reading ‘Maximum Brainpower’, yet is so important to mention here that imagining something is accepted in the brain equally to actually experiencing such. So if you imagine yourself performing a task, to your mind it is the same as though you had experienced such in reality.

Saturation with new information assists building our cognitive reserve, which keeps our brain young by increasing the neurons that survive.  Adult neurogenesis is a scientific fact, so our brain does not need to deteriorate with age.

Avoiding over stressful situations is also discussed, including alleviating stress at work.

There is so much food for thought here, and I include a highly useful quote here: -

‘The brain will not let the body expend energy unless it believes that success is possible, because the worst possible thing would be for us to expend all of our resources and fail. The moment we believe, the brain unleashes a flood of energy. Both hope and despair are self-fulfilling prophecies’.

Helpful tips: -

Break objective into mini goals, so the larger goal becomes attainable to our mind.

Build your cognitive foundation via immersion into detail, nuance and context. I can personally recommend the latter tip, as I have practiced this successfully.

Stability anchors is another important and interesting discussion, whereby an adult can cope with the wider stimulus of life if they feel safe within their core due to feeling anchored. This is true mostly for uncommitted people, providing a healthy foundation from which to launch themselves out into the world.
