Just 10lbs contains a wealth of information for transforming your daily habits to a healthier lifestyle, with sharing so many options of very practical solutions for change. Brad shares from his own experiences interwoven with deep knowledge of becoming more conscious regarding lifestyle management, to shift the perspective of how we are creating a body that is not in alignment to our deep desires for a slender body. Prior to listening to Just 10lbs Audio Book, I had been fortunate enough to lose 8lbs, and found so many of the ideas Brad shared, had, in fact, been a foundation for the weight loss. Listening to Just 10lbs has provided an integration of immense ideas that allowed for a dramatic weight release, for the first time to this degree in simply years. A lot of what I have held in my mind, and so forth in my emotions, has encouraged me to continue to watch what I eat, how often I eat, to exercise daily without fail…and if I did fail, I just added that exercise schedule into the next day – thus doubling the following days routine, which ensured I would not skip the exercise routine too often.
Weight loss really creates a fundamental change of your entire being, so Brad’s framework that he provides sincerely allows a foundation to begin to cement in your life that will allow all goodness to spring forth from such, allowing the weight loss you desire. Having lost 8lbs, I am very keen to lose the remaining weight that I put on partly though over indulgence of comfort eating, which I turned to anytime anything went wrong in my life, for example, if a family member shared harsh words.
Brad shares about support options for lifestyle changes. Brad discusses Cognitive Dissonance, and finally explains so much of the human behaviour whilst attempting to “break” a diet.
This occurs when we have beliefs or attitudes that are incongruent. This may cause one to ignore or eliminate the dissonant thought, as humans do not like to have dissonant conflicting thoughts. Ignoring the thought allows us to do the thing that may otherwise be deemed as wrong, unhealthy or inappropriate. Secondly I might alter the importance of certain cognitions e.g. I might decide that I cannot do without cupcakes or that losing weight isn’t as important in that moment as eating cupcakes. That way, I lessen the uncomfortable feeling of dissonance, so that I don’t feel so bad about eating cupcakes. Thirdly I might create a bunch of new ideas, for example I might rationalise eating the cupcakes, because I exercise three times a week, or I need some carbs, or I had a small dinner, or I don’t want to offend the person who baked the cupcakes. The more cognitions, or excuses I came up with, the more justified I felt to eat the cupcakes (the cognitions for eating the cupcake were outweighing the one cognition that eating the cupcake would be bad for me). Lastly I may ignore it, refuse to acknowledge it. For example if an article came out stating cupcakes are more fattening than originally thought, I would eat my cupcake and deal with the cupcake later.
Brad also discusses the importance of making concrete plans. Make healthier decisions before bad habits have a chance to assert themselves. When you strengthen new healthy habits, the old habits cannot coexist, and will lose their grip on you. Love foods that love you back!
Here are some of Brad’s helpful tips
- You are hungry for more than food – you are hungry for sustainable change.
- Listen to your body’s signals of both hunger and satisfaction.
- Use food to fill the emptiness in your stomach, not your heart or your head.
