Wednesday evening, the Semperey team headed down to the co-hosted Catherine Jones and Marshalls Jaguar Platinum event.
We were greeted at the door with Club 12A’s special Platinum rum punch and exquisite canapés. With a backdrop of fabulous Jaguar cars, their new Platinum model was unusually showcased alongside two platinum threaded dresses.
The unique dresses were flown in from Italy where the technique of turning this hard metal into a thread for weaving was originally developed. The platinum thread was combined with silk and turned into manageable ‘fabric’ in Japan by a world experts in weaving silk.
‘The work being loaned to us by Platinum Guild International is of world quality and design,’ said Vanessa Burkitt, MD of Catherine Jones Jewellery. ‘It is a privilege to be able to show these extraordinary pieces at such an exclusive and prestigious event.’
Peter Muffett, General Manager at Marshall Motor Group, said, ‘It is most unusual to combine fine jewellery with fine motor cars and precision engineering but platinum is a metal that is essential to both industries. And I had never known that platinum could be woven to make a dress. We were looking forward to hosting the evening and working with other parts of the Marshall Group and other prestige businesses’.
Two dresses came down the red carpet, with an unusual sheen not unlike armour. A platinum woven wedding dress and a cocktail dress accompanied by exceptionally beautiful platinum jewellery.

The event was combined with a small jewellery exhibition, featuring work of such designers as Alexander Davis , Anna Loucah , Anthone Roussel , Fei Liu , Laura Strand , Leyla Abdollahi , Sarah Ho and Zoe Harding , winners of the prestigious Lonmin Design Innovation Awards.
A unique platinum and diamond pendant worth £6,500 and exclusively designed by Sarah Jordan, was auctioned during the evening. The proceeds went to the Catherine Jones Foundation working to build schools in India.
