Beluga caviar, breakfast at the Wolseley and embarking on an international wine trail are among a new Top 50 ‘Must Eat’ list compiled by some of Britain’s best foodies.
The Kenwood Food Lovers Bucket List covers a host of luxury food experiences home and away, including Simon Rogan’s Michelin star restaurant L’enclume in the Lake District, sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche and Chez Panisse in California as well as teaming the humble Great British takeaway with a bottle of champagne.
It has been created by the UK’s leading kitchen appliance brand Kenwood, with help from food experts including critic Giles Coren and TV chef Simon Rimmer.
And it follows new research from Kenwood that shows how much Brits have become obsessed with food – with six in ten people (62%) quizzed saying they would choose a great food experience over any other ‘life’ experiences, including pampering, animal safaris or extreme sports like sky diving.
One in 12 adults (8.4% of 25-34 year olds) said that their most memorable food experience was dining at a Michelin star restaurant whilst one in ten people quizzed said they make holiday plans based on potential food experiences and nine per cent (9.4%) stating that their favourite international food experience was a wine trail.
Simon Rimmer explains, “We’ve pulled together what we believe to be the ultimate, unmissable gastronomic experiences for food-loving Brits. From the simple pleasures of a pork pie, to soaking up the spice markets of Marrakech, there’s something on there for everyone. We hope it inspires foodies to get out and try new things, or even create their own Food Bucket Lists to munch their way through.”
Kenwood also asked Brits about their favourite food experiences, with fish and chips, a home-cooked meal and fresh seafood at the seaside topping the poll. When travelling abroad, pizza in Italy, tapas in Spain and street food in Asia were voted the nation’s favourite foodie adventures.
Mark Swift, Director of Marketing for Kenwood, says: “It’s amazing to see what an effect food has on our lives. It’s such a fundamental part of British culture. We’ve pulled together the Food Lovers Bucket List to help people experience the very best that food has to offer both here and abroad.”
